E1 Medium

E1 - haier Air Conditioner

English

Meaning

The indoor unit of the air conditioner has detected a room temperature sensor abnormality, displaying the E1 error code on the screen or indicator. E1 indicates a room temperature sensor (indoor ambient temperature sensor) circuit fault. The air conditioner cannot accurately read the current room temperature and therefore cannot perform normal temperature regulation.

Common Causes

  1. The room temperature sensor (thermistor) is damaged, has drifted in resistance value, or has an open/short circuit.
  2. The room temperature sensor connector to the indoor unit main board is loose or has poor contact.
  3. The sensor’s connecting wire has been chewed through by rodents or has internal breakage due to prolonged vibration.
  4. Components in the indoor unit main board’s sensor detection circuit are damaged.
  5. The indoor unit’s intake filter is heavily clogged with dust, and poor airflow around the sensor prevents it from accurately sensing room temperature.
  6. Prolonged operation in extreme environmental conditions has accelerated sensor aging.

Self-Check Steps

  1. Use the remote control to power off the air conditioner, or unplug it from the outlet. Wait 2–3 minutes, then reconnect power and restart. Observe whether the error code clears — occasional communication interference can cause false triggers.
  2. Remove the air filter from the indoor unit’s intake, rinse it clean with water, dry it thoroughly, and reinstall it. Ensure the sensor (usually a small black probe located near the right side of the intake area) is not covered by dust.
  3. Observe whether the E1 display is flashing or steady — flashing may indicate a connection issue, while a steady display typically points to a faulty sensor itself.
  4. Check whether the air conditioner can still provide cooling or heating when E1 appears: if the unit stops operating entirely when E1 shows, the sensor may have an open or short circuit and needs replacement.
  5. Room temperature sensor faults involve circuit diagnostics and component replacement and are not recommended for user DIY repair. If the above simple checks do not help, contact Haier after-sales support at 400-699-9999. A professional technician will visit with a replacement sensor to diagnose and replace it. The unit should return to normal operation immediately after sensor replacement.
