含义
F7E5 表示洗衣机换挡执行器(Shifter/Actuator)故障。
English
Meaning
F7E5 indicates a shifter/actuator fault in the washer. Certain Kenmore models use a variable-speed drive system that switches the transmission ratio between wash mode (low speed, high torque) and spin mode (high speed, low torque) via a shifter actuator. The actuator contains a small synchronous motor and a gear/fork mechanism, controlled by the main board to move to the correct gear position. When the actuator fails to reach the target position within the specified time, or the position feedback switch state does not match the command, the main board triggers F7E5 and stops the machine.
Common Causes
- The synchronous motor coil inside the shifter actuator is burned out or open-circuit, rendering the actuator completely immobile.
- The plastic gears inside the actuator are worn, stripped, or have broken teeth — the motor spins but the shift fork cannot be driven to the target position.
- The position feedback microswitch contacts inside the actuator are oxidized or stuck, continuously outputting the same state signal so the control board cannot determine the actual gear position.
- The wiring harness between the shifter actuator and the main control board has been chewed by rodents, corroded by moisture, or has a loose connector.
- The shift fork sliding sleeve and spline shaft inside the transmission are rusted and seized due to long-term lack of lubrication, and the actuator cannot generate enough torque to move them.
- The bidirectional triac (Triac) or relay on the main control board that drives the shifter actuator is damaged, unable to supply power to the actuator motor.
Self-Check Steps
- Disconnect power, wait 5 minutes, then reconnect. Run a spin-only cycle and observe whether F7E5 still appears. Sometimes the actuator gets stuck mid-position and may recover after a power-on self-test reset.
- Open the rear or lower front access panel (varies by model), locate the shifter actuator (usually mounted on the transmission housing), check the wiring harness connector for tightness, unplug and re-plug to ensure good contact.
- Visually inspect the shifter actuator housing for cracks, scorch discoloration, or deformation. Melted marks on the housing indicate the internal motor has burned out and the entire actuator assembly needs replacement.
- With the washer unplugged, use a small flathead screwdriver to gently move the actuator output fork arm and feel for noticeable binding or excessive resistance. A normal fork should allow slight manual movement.
- Check for signs of lubricant leakage around the transmission. If the transmission housing appears dry and rusty, internal lubrication has failed; contact after-sales service for transmission inspection or replacement.
- If the fault persists with the harness confirmed intact, measure the actuator motor coil resistance using a multimeter in resistance mode. Compare with the nominal value in the service manual — replace the actuator if the deviation is excessive.
- When both actuator and harness check normal, the fault points to a damaged shifter drive circuit on the control board. Contact Kenmore after-sales service for control board repair or replacement.
