English
Meaning
The Skyworth TV has detected a backlight overcurrent protection (OCP) trigger. Code E14 indicates that the current in the LED backlight strip circuit has exceeded the safety limit set by the driver board. The backlight driver IC continuously monitors the LED strip current. When an abnormally high current is detected (typically caused by a short circuit in the strip or driver circuit parameter drift), it immediately cuts the output to prevent strip burnout or driver board damage. This fault is the opposite of E1 — E1 is low current (open circuit), while E14 is high current (short circuit or overload).
Common Causes
- Internal short circuit in the LED strip — some LED beads have broken down, reducing the equivalent resistance and increasing circuit current.
- The current-sense resistor (sampling resistor) on the backlight driver board has changed value or has a cold solder joint, causing the detection circuit to misread.
- The boost circuit MOSFET on the driver board has shorted, subjecting the LED strip to excessive voltage and current.
- The insulation on the strip wiring has been damaged, causing a terminal-to-ground or terminal-to-terminal short.
- Solder bridging at the parallel connection points between strips has caused abnormal current distribution among multiple strips.
- The PWM dimming signal to the driver IC is abnormal, with the duty cycle out of control and outputting 100% current.
Self-Check Steps
- Unplug the TV and wait 5 minutes for the PSU capacitors to fully discharge, then reconnect and observe whether the error triggers immediately.
- Inspect the strip wiring for visible damage, burn marks, or melted insulation — shorts are often accompanied by physical signs of damage.
- Using a multimeter on resistance mode, measure between the pins of the LED strip connectors (a normal strip shows several hundred ohms); a reading near zero indicates a short.
- Disconnect all LED strips and power on — if E14 no longer appears, the issue is on the strip side; if it persists, the driver board is likely at fault.
- OCP faults involve high-voltage, high-current circuits. Opening the TV chassis carries electric shock risk. Contact Skyworth after-sales service.
