Ld

English

Meaning

Ld (Long Drain) indicates that the washer is draining water too slowly and the drain time has exceeded the preset limit. Unlike F9E1 (no drain at all), Ld means water is draining but the drain rate is significantly below normal, causing the drain phase to take too long and affecting the overall wash cycle. The control board monitors the drop in the outer tub water level via the water level pressure sensor. If the water level fails to drop below the target within the maximum allowed time after the drain pump starts, an Ld warning is triggered. The machine typically flashes the display alert but continues attempting to complete the remaining drain work.

Common Causes

  1. A thick layer of grime (soap scum mixed with fabric fibers) has built up on the inner wall of the drain hose, reducing the effective inner diameter and lowering drain flow.
  2. The drain pump filter cavity has residual lint, coins, or small items — the pump still runs but the reduced flow area slows drainage.
  3. The drain pump impeller is entangled with a small amount of fibers but not yet completely seized — the pump spins but at reduced RPM with insufficient lift.
  4. The household drain piping (in-wall or floor drain) has a partial blockage or grime buildup at elbows, causing backflow that impedes washer drainage.
  5. The drain pump motor capacitor has aged and lost capacitance, reducing starting torque and running power, resulting in insufficient pump output.
  6. The drain hose outlet is too close to the floor drain causing incomplete siphoning, or the hose end is submerged in standing water in the drain creating airlock, causing intermittent drainage.
  7. The water level pressure sensor air hose has a small air leak (not completely detached), causing the sensor to detect a slower water level drop than the actual rate.

Self-Check Steps

  1. Check the entire drain hose run for localized flattening or bends with excessively tight radius. The drain hose should maintain a natural curve with a bend diameter of no less than 10 cm.
  2. Open the drain pump filter access door (typically at the lower front), and clean out accumulated lint, coins, and debris from the filter cavity. This should be done as routine monthly maintenance.
  3. Pour roughly half a tub of clean water into the drum, run a drain-only cycle, and observe whether the water flow from the drain hose outlet is continuous and forceful. A weak or intermittent stream indicates a partial blockage in the plumbing.
  4. Disconnect the drain hose from the washer end, shine a flashlight into the opening, and inspect the inner wall for grime buildup. If there is obvious black grime layering, scrub the inside with a long-handled soft brush and water, or replace the drain hose.
  5. Check whether the household drain standpipe or floor drain is draining freely: pour a bucket of water directly into the floor drain and observe the drainage speed. If the floor drain itself drains slowly, use a drain cleaner or contact property management to clear the building drain line.
  6. Ensure an air gap of 5–10 cm between the drain hose outlet and the floor drain opening. Do not insert the drain hose deep into the standpipe creating a sealed condition, as this can cause an airlock effect.
  7. If drainage remains slow after cleaning the plumbing with an abnormal pump sound (low and weak humming), the drain pump motor may have performance degradation. Contact Kenmore after-sales service for drain pump replacement.
