含义
Sd(Suds / Suds Detected)表示洗衣机检测到桶内泡沫过多,超出系统安全处理能力。

Meaning
Sd (Suds / Suds Detected) indicates that the washer has detected excessive suds in the drum beyond the system’s safe handling capacity. Kenmore washers detect “suds lock” — a condition where excessive foam envelops the laundry causing abnormally increased damping, reduced motor load, while the water level sensor continues to sense water pressure (from the suds column) — through motor load current changes and/or water level sensor fluctuations. Once excessive suds are detected, the control board displays the Sd code and automatically initiates a “suds reduction cycle”: pausing agitation, adding extra standing time, and on some models, adding a small amount of water to dilute the suds, then resuming normal wash rhythm after the suds naturally subside.
Common Causes
- Using more than the recommended amount of high-efficiency (HE) detergent, or using regular non-HE detergent — non-HE detergent produces 3–5 times more suds than HE detergent.
- Excessive detergent dispensing, especially when pouring by feel rather than following the graduated markings — common with large detergent bottles that lack a measuring cap with graduations.
- The laundry itself contains a large amount of residual detergent or fabric softener from a previous wash with insufficient rinsing, and the accumulated residue foams again upon contact with water.
- Selecting the “Quick Wash” or “Water Saver” mode, which uses less water, causing suds concentration to increase several-fold at the same detergent dosage.
- The laundry load is too small (e.g., washing only two or three thin T-shirts) — while the water volume is normal, the friction and beating action is weak and the suds cannot be physically broken down by the laundry items.
- Using expired or clumped liquid/powder detergent where surfactant decomposition products generate abnormally persistent suds.
Self-Check Steps
- If the machine is displaying Sd and is in a paused state, do not intervene manually — the washer is running its automatic suds reduction cycle, which typically takes 5–15 minutes. Wait patiently for the Sd code to clear on its own.
- Strictly control detergent dosage going forward: follow the HE detergent graduated marking guidelines. Use the minimum recommended amount for normally soiled laundry and only use the maximum for heavily soiled items. For liquid detergent, do not exceed the first graduation line on the cap.
- Check whether the detergent packaging carries the “HE” or “High Efficiency” logo. Kenmore washers must use HE detergent; if using non-HE, stop immediately and purchase HE-specific product.
- Front-loader models allow viewing suds through the observation window: if the drum is still filled with dense suds with no visible water 5 minutes into a normal wash, the detergent dosage is severely excessive. Reduce future usage to one-third of the current amount.
- When washing new towels or new cotton items with high absorbency, these items adsorb and release large amounts of detergent, making excessive suds likely. It is recommended to add an extra rinse cycle when washing such items.
- Run a “Tub Clean” or “Sanitize” cycle (empty, no laundry) at least once a month, using a washer-specific tub cleaner or white vinegar to clear detergent residue buildup from the inner tub and plumbing.
- If Sd still appears frequently after strictly following the HE detergent recommended dosage and running a tub clean cycle, there may be suds residue trapped in the water level sensor air hose affecting detection accuracy. Contact Kenmore after-sales service to clean or replace the sensor tubing.
