English
Meaning
The refrigerator has detected abnormal operation of the freezer fan, displaying the Er FF error code on the display or temperature panel. Er FF stands for Freezer Fan Error. The freezer fan is a critical component that circulates cold air from the evaporator throughout the freezer compartment. Fan failure will cause reduced cooling performance or complete loss of freezing capability.
Common Causes
- Excessive ice buildup on the freezer evaporator, with ice contacting the fan blades and obstructing normal rotation.
- Fan blades jammed by ice chips or foreign debris.
- Fan motor bearings worn or corroded, causing excessive rotational resistance or seizure.
- Damaged fan motor windings — unable to drive the blades.
- Loose, poorly connected, or broken fan wiring harness.
- Fault in the main board’s fan control circuit or feedback detection circuit.
Self-Check Steps
- First, disconnect the refrigerator from power and remove all food from the freezer compartment.
- Leave the freezer door open to allow the ice to melt naturally (place towels to absorb melting water). This process may take several hours. Do not use sharp tools to chip away ice, as this may puncture the evaporator tubing.
- Once all ice has melted, inspect the fan outlet area on the inside rear wall of the freezer: gently turn the fan blades by hand (if visible) to check whether they rotate freely without obstruction or foreign objects.
- After drying the fan area, reconnect power and set the temperature to medium. Wait 1–2 hours, then check whether the freezer temperature is dropping and the fan sound is normal.
- If the error code reappears after re-icing, the defrost system (defrost heater, defrost sensor, or main board defrost control circuit) may be faulty, causing excessive ice accumulation. Contact LG customer service immediately.
- If the fan still does not run or the error code persists after melting all ice, the fan motor or main board may be damaged and requires professional replacement.
