E6

English

Meaning

The Robam induction cooktop has detected an excessively high DC bus voltage (VDC). The E6 error code indicates that the DC bus voltage after rectification and filtering has exceeded the safety threshold (typically above 400V DC). The induction cooktop rectifies the AC mains to DC to supply the IGBT inverter circuit; the normal bus voltage depends on the input AC voltage (approximately 310V DC for 220V AC input). An overvoltage condition directly increases voltage stress on the IGBT and filter capacitors, potentially causing component breakdown. Abnormal mains voltage rise (e.g., due to a loose neutral wire causing phase voltage elevation) is the primary trigger.

Common Causes

  1. The mains voltage is abnormally high, measuring over 265V AC (for a 220V rated system), resulting in a rectified DC voltage exceeding 370V.
  2. A loose or broken neutral wire (in three-phase supply installations), causing the phase voltage to rise toward the line-to-line voltage level (approximately 380V AC).
  3. A diode in the rectifier bridge has failed shorted, allowing an AC half-wave to be applied directly across the filter capacitor, creating a half-wave rectification boost effect.
  4. The DC bus filter capacitor has significantly degraded in capacitance, increasing ripple current and causing an elevated peak DC voltage reading.
  5. A resistor in the voltage sensing divider network has drifted (decreased in value), causing a false overvoltage reading.
  6. The cooktop is a wide-voltage (100-240V) model and the user has accidentally selected the wrong voltage setting when connected to a 240V+ grid.

Self-Check Steps

  1. Immediately stop using the cooktop and unplug it. Check whether other household appliances are also behaving abnormally — significantly brighter lights, smoke, or burnout suggests actual mains overvoltage.
  2. Use a multimeter set to AC voltage to measure the voltage at a household outlet. Normal range is 198V-242V (for 220V single-phase systems). If the measured voltage is persistently over 250V, contact the power utility immediately.
  3. Check the neutral bus bar in your main distribution panel for looseness, signs of burning, or melting. A poor neutral connection can cause voltage fluctuations.
  4. If only one cooktop shows E6 while others (if present) operate normally, the fault is in the rectifier or voltage detection circuit of that specific unit.
  5. Disconnect power for 10 minutes, then reconnect. If E6 reappears immediately, hardware has already failed (e.g., voltage divider resistor or rectifier bridge) — contact Robam after-sales service for repair.
  6. Do not use the cooktop until the mains voltage is confirmed normal; continued operation risks IGBT and filter capacitor explosion from overvoltage.
