Meaning
LC indicates that water leakage has been detected at the bottom of the dishwasher. Samsung dishwashers have a leak detection float switch (also called an anti-flood sensor) installed at the lowest point of the base pan. Under normal operation, the float stays down. When water leaks and accumulates at the bottom, the float rises with the water level and closes the switch. The main control board immediately displays the LC code and halts all program operations to prevent further leakage and electrical hazards.
Common Causes
- Excessive detergent or the use of non-dishwasher detergent (such as regular dish soap), generating large amounts of suds that overflow the tub; the suds dissolve and accumulate in the base pan, triggering the leak sensor.
- The door gasket is aged, deformed, or trapped with food debris, allowing water to seep out from the door seal during the wash cycle.
- Internal water hose connections are loose or sealing rings have aged, causing leaks during high-pressure spray cycles.
- The dishwasher is not leveled, tilting to one side and causing water to splash over and drip into the base pan during normal operation.
- The drain hose connection is not tight or the drain pump seal has failed, causing small water leaks during the drain phase.
- The bottom of the inner tub has a small crack or rust perforation (rare, typically in older units).
Self-Check Steps
- Open the dishwasher door and check for visible standing water at the bottom. If a small amount of water is present, soak it up with dry towels and run a short cycle to observe whether it leaks again.
- Confirm you are using dishwasher-specific detergent (powder, tablet, or liquid). Never use regular dish soap. If dish soap was mistakenly used, run an empty cycle (no dishes, no detergent) to thoroughly flush residual suds from the tub.
- Inspect the entire door gasket for tears, deformation, mold, or trapped debris. Clean the gasket with a damp cloth and ensure it seats tightly against the door frame.
- Check the four leveling feet and adjust until the dishwasher is level; a spirit level placed on the top edge of the door frame can help.
- Check that the connections at both ends of the inlet and drain hoses are tight. Hand-tighten any loose fittings (do not use tools to overtighten).
- If the LC code still appears after completing the above steps, there is likely a hidden leak point in the internal plumbing or seals. Disconnect power and water supply, then contact Samsung after-sales service for a disassembly inspection.
