Ambient temperature sensor failure. The thermistor that measures the surrounding room temperature is abnormal. This sensor enables auto-compensation — adjusting compressor cycle timing and fan speed based on ambient conditions.
Common Causes
- Open or short-circuited ambient sensor
- Sensor covered in dust inside the vent channel
- Loose sensor connector at the main board
- Sensor resistance drifted beyond the compensation algorithm’s tolerance
- Failed bias resistor on the main board for the ambient sensor circuit
Self-Check Steps
- Power off, locate the ambient sensor (usually near the top of the fridge or the control board), and measure resistance
- Clean dust from the sensor surface
- Verify the connector is firmly seated on the main board
- This fault does not affect basic cooling — the fridge remains usable while awaiting repair
