English
Meaning
The Changhong inverter air conditioner has detected abnormal DC bus voltage (too high or too low), displaying the F2 error code. The DC bus is the core power supply node of the inverter driver board, where AC power is rectified and supplied to the IPM module to drive the compressor. When the bus voltage deviates from the normal range (typically around 280V–380V DC, depending on mains voltage), the IPM cannot operate properly and the AC triggers protection shutdown.
Common Causes
- Some diodes in the outdoor unit’s rectifier bridge stack are open or short-circuited, causing abnormal DC voltage after rectification.
- The DC bus filter electrolytic capacitor has aged, lost capacitance, or gone open-circuit, causing bus voltage drop or excessive ripple.
- The grid input voltage itself is abnormal (too high, too low, or a missing phase), exceeding the AC’s normal operating range.
- The PFC (Power Factor Correction) circuit has failed, and the boost function is not working, causing low bus voltage.
- The voltage divider resistors in the bus voltage detection circuit have drifted, or the ADC channel is faulty, causing the main board to misread the voltage value.
- Instantaneous grid surges (lightning induction, large equipment startup) have triggered bus overvoltage protection.
Self-Check Steps
- Disconnect the AC from power, wait 5 minutes, then reconnect and start. Observe whether the F2 code clears — protection triggered by transient grid fluctuations may self-clear once voltage stabilizes.
- Check whether other high-power appliances in the home (microwave, induction cooker, electric water heater) are running simultaneously and pulling down voltage. Try using the AC during off-peak hours.
- Use a multimeter to measure the outlet voltage: the normal range should be 220V ± 10% (198V–242V AC). If the voltage significantly deviates, contact the power company or a building electrician.
- Check whether the outdoor unit’s power supply terminals are tight — loose connections increase contact resistance and cause abnormal voltage drop (this must be done with power disconnected and by a qualified professional).
- DC bus voltage abnormalities involve precision diagnostics of rectification, filtering, and PFC circuits. Do not attempt DIY repair. Contact Changhong AC after-sales service for a professional technician to measure the actual DC bus value with a multimeter and oscilloscope, identify the faulty component, and replace it.
