The Changhong TV has detected a main chip (main SoC) fault. The TV may fail to power on, reboot automatically after startup, freeze at the boot logo, show a scrambled screen, or exhibit no response at all. The E04 error code indicates the TV’s core processor SoC is not functioning normally. This is the “brain” of the TV — all functions depend on this chip.
Common Causes
- The SoC chip has been running at high temperature for extended periods due to poor heat dissipation, causing internal transistor degradation or burnout.
- An internal power rail short within the SoC, typically caused by internal PMU failure or external filter capacitor short circuits.
- BGA package solder joints have developed cracks under repeated thermal cycling, breaking connections between the chip and the PCB.
- The external crystal oscillator for the SoC has failed or drifted in frequency, preventing the chip from obtaining a stable clock signal.
- The PMIC (Power Management IC) supplying the SoC core voltage is outputting abnormal voltage, resulting in under-voltage or over-voltage to the core.
- The SoC has been damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD) or grid surge events.
Self-Check Steps
- Disconnect all external devices (HDMI cables, USB devices, Ethernet, etc.) from the TV, unplug the power cord, wait at least 10 minutes, then reconnect power and attempt to turn on.
- If the TV can enter standby mode (indicator light is on), try holding the physical power button or remote power button for more than 10 seconds to perform a hard reset.
- Check whether the TV’s ventilation holes are blocked by dust and ensure sufficient airflow space around the TV (at least 10 cm clearance on all sides).
- Verify that the wall outlet voltage is normal — try a different outlet to rule out power supply issues.
