E80 High

E80 - frigidaire Washer

English

Meaning

E80 indicates a water level sensor (pressure switch) fault. The controller has detected that the frequency or voltage signal from the level sensor is outside the normal range — typically the sensor persistently reports high water level when the tub is empty, or reports low water level even after filling is complete. An abnormal level signal prevents the controller from determining the actual amount of water in the tub, potentially leading to dangerous conditions such as overfilling (overflow) or insufficient water (dry heating of the element).

Common Causes

  1. The air hose connecting the pressure chamber (at the bottom of the outer tub) to the level sensor is detached, kinked, or cracked, preventing pressure signals from reaching the sensor correctly.
  2. The pressure chamber cavity is clogged with detergent residue, sludge, or lint; as the water level rises, water pressure cannot compress the air inside the chamber.
  3. The level sensor’s internal sensing diaphragm (or ferrite core coil assembly) is aged, stuck, or ruptured, causing the output frequency to no longer vary linearly with air pressure.
  4. The three-wire connection (power, ground, signal) between the sensor and the control board is broken or has poor contact; the main board cannot read a valid frequency signal.
  5. The oscillator or frequency-to-voltage conversion section in the control board’s level detection circuit is damaged and cannot correctly interpret the sensor output.

Self-Check Steps

  1. Unplug the power cord, open the top cover (or rear panel) of the washer, and locate the water level sensor — typically a round or rectangular plastic component with a clear/translucent rubber hose running downward to the pressure chamber on the outer tub.
  2. Check whether this clear air hose is loose, detached, or has a sharp kink. Gently pull the hose end off and re-seat it firmly, ensuring the entire hose run is free of crushing.
  3. Disconnect the air hose from the sensor end and blow gently into the hose with your mouth (do not over-force). Check whether the passage is clear — if you cannot blow through, the hose or pressure chamber is clogged and needs to be disassembled and cleaned.
  4. Inspect the 3-pin or 4-pin connector on the water level sensor for looseness and pin oxidation. If necessary, unplug and reconnect it, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
  5. The water level sensor is a precision-calibrated component. Different models use different level frequencies (typically 10–70 kHz) and are not interchangeable. If the steps above do not help, contact Frigidaire after-sales service to replace with the correct model of water level sensor.
