Meaning
EF0 indicates a base leak detected — the float switch or leak sensor in the washer’s base pan (drip tray) has detected accumulated water. When water in the base pan reaches a certain level, the float switch closes and triggers the EF0 alarm. The controller will immediately stop water intake and activate the drain pump to empty the tub, preventing the leak from spreading and causing floor damage or electrical shock risks. This code is a safety protection measure; the leak source should be investigated as soon as possible after it appears.
Common Causes
- The outer tub (plastic welded drum) has a crack at a seam or on the tub body itself, allowing water to seep out during washing or spinning.
- The sealing washer at the connection between the inlet hose and the washer’s inlet valve is aged, deformed, or not tightened properly, causing a slow leak that drips down the chassis to the base pan.
- The rubber bellows connecting the drain outlet of the outer tub to the drain hose is cracked, loose, or the hose clamp has slipped off, causing water to spray directly into the base pan during draining.
- The bottom of the door gasket (viewing window rubber seal) is torn or punctured by foreign objects, allowing water to leak from the gasket breach to the front lower area during wash and rinse cycles.
- The corrugated hose connecting the detergent dispenser drawer to the outer tub has aged and cracked; during the water-inlet flush of detergent, some water flows through the crack and down to the base pan.
Self-Check Steps
- Immediately disconnect power from the washer. Do not touch the washer or step into pooled water if there is any possibility that the appliance is energized with standing water.
- Use a dry towel or mop to clean up water from the base pan. At the same time, check that the float switch (typically a small white float assembly) can move freely up and down, and clean any debris or dirt around the switch.
- Visually inspect the bottom fold of the door gasket for tears or foreign objects like coins embedded in the rubber. Door gasket damage is the most common source of external leaks.
- After reconnecting power, run a short cold-water program. Use a flashlight to observe from the side and beneath the machine whether water traces are emerging from the bottom of the outer tub, the drain bellows joint, or the inlet valve connections — pinpoint the leak location.
- Once the leak source is identified: a torn door gasket can be self-replaced by ordering the correct model gasket (requires removing the front frame). Outer tub cracks or internal hose ruptures require contact with Frigidaire after-sales service for a tear-down repair — do not attempt to disassemble the outer tub yourself.
