English

Meaning

3H indicates that the dishwasher water fill flow is insufficient or too slow, failing to reach the target water level within the specified time window. GE dishwashers control the fill process through a water inlet solenoid valve while monitoring fill rate and water level via a flow meter or water level pressure switch. If the control board detects at the end of the scheduled fill phase that the water volume is below the target but the situation does not constitute a complete no-fill condition (which would trigger code FTD), the system identifies a slow-fill fault and displays code 3H. The machine may attempt to continue running, but wash performance will be noticeably degraded.

Common Causes

  1. Household water supply pressure is too low (below 20 psi / 1.4 bar); the inflow rate is insufficient to deliver the required water volume within the time window. This is common in older residential buildings or during peak water-usage periods.
  2. The inlet valve intake screen is partially clogged with scale, sediment, or rust, reducing the effective screen area and significantly slowing the fill rate.
  3. The inlet solenoid valve plunger is sluggish or not fully opening: the plunger seal diaphragm has aged and swollen, or the spring has weakened; the valve receives power but does not open completely.
  4. The rubber lining inside the water inlet hose has aged, delaminated, or the inner wall has scaled, narrowing the effective pipe diameter — effectively a flow restriction in the line.
  5. The flow meter impeller is dragging due to sediment ingress, increasing rotational resistance; water flows in normally but the flow pulse signal detected by the control board is lower than expected.

Self-Check Steps

  1. Check whether water flow from other household faucets is normal: if overall water pressure is low, wait for pressure to recover and re-run the dishwasher. If only the dishwasher fills slowly, continue with the steps below.
  2. Close the water supply shutoff valve, disconnect the inlet hose from the dishwasher end, check the black rubber gasket washer in the hose connector for aging or deformation, and observe whether the hose interior shows lining delamination or heavy scale buildup.
  3. Locate the fine stainless steel mesh intake screen at the inlet valve port (where the hose connects), carefully extract it with a small screwdriver or needle-nose pliers, and scrub it clean with an old toothbrush under running water before reinstalling.
  4. Place one end of the inlet hose into a bucket, slowly open the shutoff valve, and observe the water flow rate and spray force: there should be a strong, forceful stream; a weak trickle points to a supply-side or hose problem rather than an issue inside the dishwasher.
  5. If water flow is normal but the machine still reports 3H, disconnect power, remove the front lower panel, and check whether the inlet solenoid valve wiring harness connector is loose. While power is on and the fill phase starts, place a hand on the valve body to feel for slight vibration and a hissing water-flow sound; if the valve body shows no response at all, the coil may be aged or the control board drive circuit may have failed — contact GE after-sales service.
