F7 indicates that a function key or touch-sensitive area on the oven control panel has been detected as continuously activated (stuck key). During power-on self-test, the control board scans the electrical state of all keys: if any key signal line remains held low (pressed state) beyond a timeout period (typically 60 seconds), the control board declares that key stuck and displays F7 while disabling the panel to prevent unintended operation. The oven can still receive power via the circuit breaker, but all panel controls are locked out.
Common Causes
- The control panel membrane (film-type keypad) has delaminated and layers are sticking together due to prolonged use or high-temperature exposure.
- Liquid (spills, cleaning agents) has seeped into the seam between the keypad overlay and the housing, causing leakage current and a false short between key contacts.
- Food debris or grease has accumulated in the cracks around the keys, physically jamming a key and preventing it from springing back.
- On touch-control panels, a touch sensing IC channel has latched due to electrostatic discharge (ESD) interference.
- A pull-up resistor on the keypad PCB has gone open-circuit, or carbon-film contacts have worn through and shorted.
Self-Check Steps
- Switch off the oven circuit breaker at the electrical panel for at least 5 minutes to force a complete control board reset. After restoring power, observe whether F7 clears.
- With the power off, wipe the entire keypad surface carefully with a slightly damp soft cloth, paying special attention to the crevices between keys. Use a mild neutral cleaner — avoid abrasive or strong alkaline cleaning products.
- Use a toothpick or soft-bristled toothbrush to gently clean accumulated grease and food debris from the gaps around the keys, then dry thoroughly with a clean cloth.
- For touch-control panels, wipe the panel surface with a dry microfiber cloth after disconnecting power to dissipate any accumulated static charge. Restore power and test.
