English
Meaning
The washing machine has detected that the motor is unable to rotate properly or is jammed, displaying the LE error code. LE stands for Locked Motor Error, indicating a critical fault. The motor rotor is seized and cannot turn freely, or the Hall sensor feedback signal is abnormal, preventing the inverter drive system from operating correctly.
Common Causes
- The motor rotor is jammed by foreign objects — small items such as coins or hairpins that fell from the drum into the motor cavity.
- Severely worn, corroded, or seized motor bearings.
- Faulty motor Hall sensor (position detection sensor), preventing the controller from reading rotor position.
- Short or open circuit in the motor stator windings.
- Damaged inverter drive board (IPM module), unable to drive the motor correctly.
- Loose, poorly connected, or broken wiring harness between the motor and the control board.
Self-Check Steps
- Immediately turn off the washing machine and unplug it. Do not attempt to restart — forcing operation may further damage the motor or drive board.
- Open the door and manually rotate the drum by hand. Check for noticeable resistance, abnormal noise, or binding — the drum should rotate relatively freely under normal conditions.
- If you hear an obvious rattling sound or feel significant resistance when turning the drum, a foreign object may be lodged between the drum and the outer tub, requiring professional disassembly for removal.
- After disconnecting power, wait 30 minutes, then plug back in and power on to try once — occasionally, overload protection triggers this code and may reset after cooling.
- If the error persists, this issue is generally beyond user-level repair. Contact LG customer service for a professional technician to inspect the motor, Hall sensor, and drive board on-site, and to replace faulty components. Do not attempt to disassemble the motor assembly yourself — risk of electric shock and mechanical injury.
