E7 indicates a communication error between the indoor unit and outdoor unit. The A/C units exchange operating commands, temperature data, and protection signals via the communication bus. When communication is interrupted or data is corrupted, this code is triggered.
Common Causes
- The communication wire between indoor and outdoor units is loose or broken.
- The communication wire terminals are oxidized or corroded by moisture.
- Abnormal power supply to the outdoor unit (phase loss, unstable voltage) prevents the outdoor board from powering up and communicating.
- Damaged communication circuit components (optocoupler, communication IC) on either board.
- Electromagnetic interference from power lines affecting the communication line.
Self-Check Steps
- Check that the communication wire between indoor and outdoor units is securely connected (usually at the outdoor unit terminal block).
- Verify the outdoor unit power supply is normal and voltage is within range.
- Turn off power and check the communication wire for damage, oxidation, or poor contact.
- If the wire is normal but E7 persists, the indoor or outdoor main board may be faulty — contact service.
