English

Meaning

F1 indicates an internal failure of the oven’s electronic control board, typically an EEPROM memory checksum error or microprocessor self-test failure. The control board serves as the “brain” of the oven, managing all functions including temperature regulation, timer, and self-cleaning. When the self-diagnostic routine detects an anomaly in onboard memory or logic circuits, the control board locks out all operations and displays F1 to prevent unpredictable behavior. This is a critical safety fault — disconnect power immediately.

Common Causes

  1. Power line surges or frequent voltage fluctuations cause EEPROM memory bit flips or data corruption.
  2. Poor ventilation around the control board mounting location leads to chronic overheating, drying out electrolytic capacitors or cracking solder joints on the circuit board.
  3. Failure of the onboard power transformer or voltage regulator circuit, causing microprocessor supply voltage to deviate from rated values.
  4. Moisture ingress from a humid environment or liquid seepage into the control panel during cleaning, causing PCB corrosion or short circuits.
  5. Extreme heat (up to 480°C / 900°F) generated during the self-cleaning cycle conducts through the chassis and damages nearby control board components.

Self-Check Steps

  1. Switch off the oven’s circuit breaker at the electrical panel and wait at least 5 minutes before restoring power. This forces a complete control board reset.
  2. After restoring power, observe whether F1 still appears on the display. If the fault clears, monitor future use for recurrence.
  3. Verify adequate ventilation clearance around the oven. The control board is typically located at the top rear of the unit — ensure this area is not obstructed by debris.
  4. If F1 appeared immediately after running a self-clean cycle, high heat has likely damaged the control board. Contact after-sales service directly.
  5. After disconnecting power, remove the control panel cover and visually inspect the control board for burn marks, bulging capacitors, or corrosion. If you lack electronics repair experience, do not touch the circuit board — contact GE authorized service to schedule an on-site inspection.
