Common Causes
- The main switching transistor (MOSFET) on the primary side of the power board has broken down or degraded, preventing normal primary-side operation.
- Output filter capacitors on the secondary side of the power board have bulged, leaked, or lost capacitance, causing excessive output voltage ripple.
- Feedback circuit components (optocoupler, TL431, etc.) have failed, preventing output voltage from stabilizing at the set value.
- The standalone standby power supply (Standby PSU) circuit has failed, resulting in no standby indicator at all.
- The input fuse on the power board has blown, potentially caused by a downstream short circuit or lightning surge.
- The PFC (Power Factor Correction) circuit on the power board has failed, preventing the main power supply from starting normally.
Self-Check Steps
- Verify that the wall outlet has power (plug in another appliance such as a desk lamp to test) and check that both ends of the TV power cord are firmly connected.
- Unplug the TV from the current outlet and plug it into a different known-good outlet to rule out outlet or wiring contact issues.
- Observe the TV’s standby indicator — completely off with no response to any button press may indicate the power board is not outputting at all; flashing then going out may indicate the power board is in protection lockout.
- Check the power cord and plug for signs of damage, scorching, or heat deformation — if any abnormalities are found, stop using immediately.
- Power board repair involves high-voltage circuits. Even after disconnecting power, filter capacitors may retain life-threatening high-voltage charges. Never attempt DIY disassembly!
