26 - ge Washer

English

Meaning

Error code 26 indicates a pump-out timeout. During the drain phase, the washer detects that the water level is not dropping at the expected rate, and the pressure switch fails to return to the empty-tub water level value within the allotted time. The main control board determines the drain rate is too slow and stops the program to prevent the drain pump from running dry or the motor from overheating.

Common Causes

  1. The drain pump filter is partially clogged — water can flow through but at insufficient volume, significantly reducing drain speed.
  2. The drain line has a partial obstruction, such as a lint wad or a small article of clothing, that increases flow resistance.
  3. The drain hose is installed too high (above 96cm / 38 inches), or the horizontal run is too long with too many elbows, creating excessive drain resistance.
  4. The drain pump impeller is worn or obstructed by debris, increasing rotational resistance and reducing pump speed.
  5. The pressure switch (water level sensor) has drifted in calibration, and the empty-tub reset threshold is abnormal, causing a false trigger.

Self-Check Steps

  1. Unplug the washer and open the lower front access panel. Place a container under the drain pump filter to catch water. Slowly unscrew the filter and clear away accumulated lint and debris.
  2. Inspect the full drain hose run. Ensure the highest point does not exceed 96cm (approx. 38 inches) above the washer base, and the hose end is not pushed too deep into the standpipe.
  3. Detach the drain hose end from the floor drain and visually inspect the interior for lint wads or foreign objects. Flush the hose with water using a long flexible brush.
  4. After cleaning, reinstall the filter, pour about half a tub of water into the drum, and run a drain-only cycle to test the drain speed and sound.
  5. If the drain path is confirmed clear but the fault persists, the pressure switch or drain pump motor speed may be abnormal. Contact GE after-sales service for professional diagnosis and replacement.
