English
Meaning
Error code 27 indicates a door switch malfunction. The main control board is receiving an unstable or contradictory signal when reading the door state — the switch may be toggling on and off during a running cycle, or the door is physically closed but the switch consistently outputs an “open” signal. The controller cannot confirm the door’s safe state and pauses all operations.
Common Causes
- The door switch microswitch contacts are oxidized or pitted with carbon buildup, causing increased contact resistance and unstable signal.
- The door switch’s mechanical actuator (push rod) is worn, deformed, or broken, so closing the door cannot reliably depress the microswitch.
- The door switch wiring harness connector is loose, the terminals are corroded, or a wire inside the harness is broken (common at the hinge area where the harness repeatedly flexes).
- The door hinge is loose, causing the door to sag and the door hook’s engagement gap with the switch actuator to widen beyond tolerance.
- The main control board’s door switch detection circuit has a damaged pull-up/pull-down resistor or optocoupler, causing abnormal signal detection.
Self-Check Steps
- Open and close the washer door 5–6 times firmly — the mechanical action may clear light oxidation from the contact surfaces. Listen for a crisp “click” from the microswitch each time the door closes.
- Use a flashlight to observe the door hook and the switch actuator opening on the door frame. Confirm the door hook aligns with and pushes into the actuator opening when closing.
- Check whether the door hinge screws are loose. If the door visibly sags (uneven gap at the top and bottom of the door), tighten the hinge screws with a screwdriver to realign the door.
- If you hear rolling sounds inside the door area, a coin or small object may have fallen into the switch mechanism and is blocking the actuator. Remove the top panel to clear the obstruction.
- If the switch mechanism moves normally but the fault persists, the switch contacts may be heavily oxidized or the harness may be broken. Contact GE after-sales service to replace the door switch assembly.
