English
Meaning
The input supply voltage is too high. E8 indicates the washer’s voltage detection circuit has measured the AC input voltage exceeding the ~265V safety upper limit. To prevent overvoltage damage to the main board and motor drive circuits, the system triggers protection and stops operation.
Common Causes
- Abnormally high grid voltage — in a three-phase four-wire system, a broken neutral line can cause a single phase to rise to 380V.
- Improperly set distribution transformer taps in the residential area, causing high output voltage.
- When powered by a generator, the voltage regulator has malfunctioned, producing excessive output.
- Component parameter drift in the washer main board’s voltage detection circuit, falsely reporting overvoltage.
- Lightning strike causing a momentary grid voltage spike; though brief, it is captured by the detection circuit.
- High-power inductive loads on the same circuit (e.g., large motors, welders) starting or stopping, producing transient overvoltage.
Self-Check Steps
- Use a multimeter in AC voltage mode to measure the outlet voltage — normal is 198V–242V (220V±10%). A sustained reading above 260V indicates an abnormal supply.
- Try plugging the washer into a different outlet (on a different circuit) to rule out local wiring issues.
- Ask neighbors whether they are also experiencing electrical appliance anomalies — if voltage is high across the area, contact the power utility to adjust the transformer tap.
- If voltage is normal but the washer still reports E8, the main board’s voltage detection circuit may be faulty. Contact TCL after-sales for main board inspection.
- In areas with unstable voltage, consider adding an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) to protect the washer.
