English
Meaning
Error code E23 signals that the dryer has detected restricted exhaust vent airflow. The control board evaluates airflow by monitoring exhaust temperature rise rate or a pressure switch signal; when back-pressure exceeds the calibrated threshold this code is triggered. Poor ventilation significantly extends drying times, increases energy consumption, and creates a potential overheating hazard.
Common Causes
- External exhaust duct too long, has too many bends, or is undersized, creating excessive airflow resistance.
- Heavy lint accumulation inside the exhaust duct causing partial blockage.
- Outdoor vent hood or screen clogged with lint, dust, or debris.
- Flexible exhaust duct crimped, kinked, or collapsed, especially in tight spaces behind the dryer.
- Air pressure switch faulty or its sensing hose disconnected/blocked, causing false exhaust restriction readings.
Self-Check Steps
- Disconnect power, pull the dryer away from the wall, and inspect the rear exhaust duct for kinks, crushing, or sharp bends — straighten the duct path as needed.
- Disconnect the duct from the dryer and clear any lint buildup at the connection point using your hand or a vacuum hose.
- Check the outdoor vent hood — remove lint and debris from the cover and verify the flaps open and close freely.
- Measure the total effective duct length: keep runs under 25 ft (8 m) with no more than 4 elbows; exceeding this requires duct re-routing or a booster fan.
- If the duct path is clear but the code persists, inspect the air pressure switch and its sensing hose for damage or loose connections, and replace the switch if defective.
