Meaning
The Konka TV has detected an abnormal VGL (gate low-level) voltage on the panel. Error code E003 indicates that the negative VGL voltage generated by the logic board is outside the normal range. VGL is used to turn off TFT gate channels in the LCD panel. An abnormal VGL voltage prevents pixels from properly turning off, resulting in grayscale anomalies, image retention, or a washed-out screen.
Common Causes
- The negative-voltage charge pump or negative linear regulator on the logic board is damaged and cannot output the correct VGL voltage.
- The filter capacitor on the VGL rail is shorted or leaking, pulling the negative voltage back toward zero.
- Leakage in the gate driver circuit inside the panel is overloading the VGL supply.
- Abnormal power supply to the logic board prevents the charge pump from generating the negative voltage.
- The COF ribbon cable between the logic board and the LCD panel is corroded or poorly contacted.
- A micro-short in the gate trace on the LCD glass substrate is consuming excessive VGL current.
Self-Check Steps
- Power cycle the TV to rule out transient logic board false alarms.
- Observe whether the screen appears uniformly washed out, foggy, or shows trailing artifacts — these are classic symptoms of abnormal VGL voltage.
- Check whether the logic board power ribbon cable is loose; try reseating it.
