English
Meaning
Cliff sensor anomaly. The robot’s drop-detection sensors are dirty, blocked, or have an internal failure — fall prevention may be compromised.
Common Causes
- Cliff sensor (infrared or laser rangefinder) windows covered with dust or debris
- Sensors obscured by water or cleaning solution residue after mopping
- Dark or reflective floors (e.g., glossy black tiles) causing erroneous readings
- Thick carpet reducing the floor-to-sensor distance, triggering protection mode
- Aging IR LED or phototransistor reducing sensor sensitivity
Self-Check Steps
- Wipe all cliff sensor windows on the robot’s underside with a clean, dry cloth
- Test the robot on a light-colored floor to verify sensor function
- Check for water streaks or cleaning agent residue on the floor — clean and retry
- Observe if false triggers occur at transitions with large height changes (e.g., door mats)
- If cleaning does not resolve the issue, the cliff sensor module needs replacement
