PFC (Power Factor Correction) circuit fault. F0 indicates the PFC circuit on the outdoor unit’s inverter main board has detected an abnormality — PFC inductor overcurrent, PFC IGBT short circuit, or DC bus voltage unable to boost to the target level. A PFC circuit fault will reduce the AC’s energy efficiency and may prevent normal voltage boosting to supply the IPM module.
Common Causes
- Inter-turn short circuit in the PFC inductor coil or cracked magnetic core, reducing inductance.
- PFC IGBT transistor breakdown and short circuit, causing abnormal DC bus voltage.
- PFC current sensing resistor (shunt resistor) open circuit or resistance drift, causing inaccurate current sampling.
- PFC controller chip (integrated in the outdoor unit main control IC) fault.
- AC input voltage too low (<160V), making PFC boost insufficient.
- PFC boost diode open circuit or excessive reverse leakage current.
Self-Check Steps
- Use a multimeter to measure the AC voltage at the wall outlet; ensure it is within 220V±10%.
- Measure the DC bus voltage (DC mode across the outdoor unit’s main filter capacitor) — normal should be approximately 310V (PFC inactive) or around 380V (PFC active). A significantly lower reading indicates a PFC circuit fault.
- Visually inspect the PFC inductor — check for scorching, discoloration, core cracks, or lead breakage.
