English

Meaning

Compressor discharge/exhaust temperature excessively high protection. F2 indicates the discharge temperature sensor at the top of the compressor has detected that the exhaust temperature exceeds the set safety upper limit (typically around 110°C–120°C). Prolonged high discharge temperatures will cause compressor oil carbonization, accelerated winding insulation aging, and potentially compressor burnout.

Common Causes

  1. Insufficient system refrigerant (leak), reducing return gas volume and causing inadequate compressor cooling with rising discharge temperature.
  2. System pipe blockage (clogged filter-drier or micro-blockage in the capillary tube), resulting in too little refrigerant after throttling.
  3. Poor outdoor condenser heat dissipation (dirty fins or fan failure), raising condensing temperature and pushing up discharge temperature.
  4. Electronic expansion valve opening too small or incorrectly sized capillary tube, causing insufficient evaporator liquid supply.
  5. Compressor discharge temperature sensor itself faulty, falsely reporting high temperature.
  6. Ambient temperature too high, exceeding the AC’s designed normal operating range.

Self-Check Steps

  1. Check whether the outdoor condenser is dirty or clogged — clean the fins to improve heat dissipation.
  2. Touch the outdoor unit’s service valves (gas and liquid lines) to feel the temperature — if the gas line is not cool and the liquid line is not warm, there may be a refrigerant leak.
  3. Observe the AC’s cooling/heating performance during operation — if performance is noticeably degraded, a refrigerant leak is likely. Shut down immediately and contact TCL after-sales.
  4. Refrigerant system and compressor repairs must be performed by a certified refrigeration technician. Do not attempt to add refrigerant or disassemble piping yourself. Contact TCL after-sales to arrange on-site service.
