The brush bar drive motor in the cleaner head has a fault. The control board detects abnormal motor current or cannot drive the brush bar rotation. Unlike E15 (physical blockage), this code points to the motor itself or its drive circuit.
Common Causes
- Short circuit or open circuit in the brush bar motor windings
- Damaged motor drive MOSFET unable to supply normal operating current
- Broken wiring between the cleaner head and the control board, cutting motor power
- Worn motor brushes (on brushed motor models) causing intermittent contact
- Liquid ingress into the cleaner head causing internal corrosion or short circuit
Self-Check Steps
- Disconnect power and remove the cleaner head from the main unit
- Inspect the cleaner head connector pins for bending, oxidation, or burn marks
- Manually rotate the brush bar to check for mechanical binding at the motor end
- Clean the connector terminals and reconnect to see if the issue resolves
- If E16 persists, the internal motor or drive circuit in the head is damaged — replace the cleaner head assembly
