Meaning
The Robam induction cooktop has detected that the IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) power module is overheating. The E0 error code indicates the IGBT temperature has exceeded the safety threshold (typically above 95°C). The control circuit monitors the junction temperature via an NTC sensor mounted on the IGBT heatsink. When the temperature exceeds the limit, the unit immediately cuts heating output and locks to prevent IGBT thermal breakdown. This fault commonly occurs under prolonged high-power operation or when cooling conditions deteriorate.
Common Causes
- The air intake or exhaust vents on the bottom of the cooktop are blocked (installed flush against the countertop, a drawer underneath, or objects obstructing airflow), preventing effective air circulation.
- The cooling fan is seized or has accumulated heavy dust on the rotor; the fan motor windings have aged, causing reduced speed or complete stall.
- The thermal grease between the IGBT and heatsink has dried out or was applied unevenly, increasing thermal resistance and preventing effective heat transfer.
- The mains voltage is too high, or the cooktop has been operated at maximum power for extended periods, causing cumulative IGBT switching losses that exceed the thermal design margin.
- The resonant capacitor has degraded in capacitance or developed an open circuit, forcing the IGBT into hard-switching mode and multiplying switching losses.
- The cookware material is unsuitable or the pan bottom is too thin, resulting in poor energy coupling efficiency, with excess electromagnetic energy dissipated as additional IGBT heat.
Self-Check Steps
- Immediately stop using the cooktop, unplug the power cord, and wait at least 30 minutes for the IGBT to cool naturally before reconnecting power. If E0 clears temporarily but quickly returns, there is a persistent cooling problem.
- Check the bottom and surrounding area of the cooktop for obstructions. Ensure there is at least 5-10 cm of ventilation space below the cooktop, and clean dust and debris from the intake and exhaust vents.
- Power on without starting heating and observe whether the cooling fan performs a brief self-test spin. Then start heating and check if the fan runs automatically. If the fan does not spin or produces noticeable noise, it needs replacement.
- Avoid using cookware that is significantly smaller or larger than the recommended diameter for the cooking zone, and ensure the pan bottom is flat. An undersized pan concentrates energy in a small area, worsening localized temperature rise.
- If E0 recurs frequently, the thermal grease may have aged or the resonant capacitor may have failed. Contact Robam after-sales service for professional disassembly, inspection, and replacement of thermal compound or faulty components.
