Meaning
The Robam induction cooktop cannot detect suitable cookware or the cookware is incompatible. The E1 error code indicates that after heating was initiated, the cooktop’s pan detection circuit failed to identify a proper pan load. The induction cooktop uses high-frequency pulses to check whether the cookware placed on the cooking zone has sufficient magnetic permeability and effective coupling area. If no qualifying pan is detected within the specified time, the unit displays E1 and stops heating. This is a protective shutdown and not necessarily a hardware failure.
Common Causes
- The cookware does not have a magnetic bottom (e.g., pure aluminum, pure copper, glass, ceramic, or clay pots), so the induction cooktop cannot generate eddy currents for heating.
- The pan bottom diameter is too small (less than 8 cm), preventing the detection circuit from establishing sufficient mutual inductance coupling.
- The pan bottom is uneven or severely warped, creating poor contact with the ceramic glass panel, and the air gap attenuates the detection signal.
- There are metal objects on the cooking zone surface (e.g., aluminum foil, metal utensils, grill stand feet) that interfere with the pan detection signal.
- The resonant circuit parameters for pan detection have drifted (e.g., resonant capacitor value change), reducing detection sensitivity.
- The pan is placed off-center relative to the cooking zone marking, too far from the coil center for adequate coupling.
Self-Check Steps
- Verify your cookware is marked “induction compatible” on the bottom, or test with a magnet — if the magnet sticks to the pan bottom, it is suitable for induction cooking.
- Place the pan at the exact center of the cooking zone and ensure the pan bottom diameter is at least 8 cm. Try lifting the pan and repositioning it so the panel sensor can properly detect it.
- Inspect the pan bottom for flatness by turning the pan upside down on a countertop — a visibly warped pan bottom needs replacement.
- Remove any metal objects from the cooking zone surface, wipe the ceramic glass panel clean with a soft cloth to remove oil or food residue, and retry.
- Test with another pan known to work on an induction cooktop to determine whether the issue is with the original pan or the cooktop itself.
- If no pan is detected at all, the cooktop’s detection circuit may have failed — contact Robam after-sales service for diagnosis.
