E2 - robam Induction Cooktop

English

Meaning

The Robam induction cooktop has detected an open circuit in the IGBT temperature sensor (NTC1). The E2 error code indicates that the measured resistance of NTC1 is abnormally high (typically over 100kΩ), corresponding to an extremely low or out-of-range temperature reading. NTC1 is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor typically mounted on the IGBT heatsink, used for real-time IGBT temperature monitoring to enable over-temperature protection and power regulation. With NTC1 open-circuited, the control system cannot obtain accurate temperature data and locks the heating output for safety.

Common Causes

  1. The NTC1 component itself has developed internal solder joint fatigue fractures from repeated thermal cycling, resulting in an open-circuit failure.
  2. The NTC1 lead connector (terminal) is loose, oxidized, or has detached, interrupting the signal path.
  3. The wiring between NTC1 and the main control board has been chewed by insects or rodents, or was pinched during assembly.
  4. The pull-up resistor in the NTC voltage divider circuit on the main board has a cold solder joint or has failed open, causing an abnormal voltage reading.
  5. Severe vibration during transportation or installation has broken the NTC1 leads at the root.
  6. The NTC1 solder joints have suffered electrochemical corrosion fracture due to a humid environment.

Self-Check Steps

  1. Disconnect the cooktop from power, wait 5 minutes, then reconnect and power on to see if E2 clears. Intermittent contact issues may temporarily resolve after a power-cycle reset.
  2. Check whether the NTC1 connector at the bottom of the cooktop is firmly inserted into the main board socket. Try unplugging and re-plugging it to ensure good contact.
  3. Use a multimeter in resistance mode to measure across the two NTC1 leads. At room temperature (25°C), normal resistance should be between 5kΩ and 50kΩ. If the reading shows infinite resistance (open circuit), NTC1 has failed.
  4. Inspect the wiring harness for visible physical damage, breaks, or signs of oxidation.
  5. NTC1 is typically located on the IGBT heatsink and requires disassembly to access. DIY replacement is not recommended — contact Robam after-sales service for a professional technician to replace the faulty NTC sensor.
