English
Meaning
The Changhong air conditioner indoor unit has detected a room temperature sensor abnormality, displaying the E1 error code. E1 indicates a room temperature sensor (ambient thermistor) circuit fault. The air conditioner cannot obtain an accurate indoor temperature reading and therefore cannot perform normal cooling or heating temperature regulation. The fault typically manifests as frequent cycling, discrepancy between set temperature and actual feel, or the unit refusing to start.
Common Causes
- The room temperature sensor (NTC thermistor) has aged, drifted in resistance value, or has an internal open/short circuit.
- The sensor connector to the indoor unit main board is loose, oxidized, or has bent pins causing poor contact.
- The sensor’s connecting wire has been chewed through by rodents or has internal copper core breakage due to prolonged vibration.
- Components in the indoor unit main board’s sensor signal detection circuit are damaged (e.g., pull-up resistor open, ADC channel failure).
- The indoor unit intake filter is heavily clogged with dust, and the sensor probe is covered in dust, leading to inaccurate temperature sensing.
- The sensor has been operating in extremely humid or high-temperature conditions for a prolonged period, accelerating thermistor aging.
Self-Check Steps
- Turn off the AC with the remote, disconnect power (unplug or switch off the circuit breaker), wait 3 minutes, then reconnect power and turn on. Observe whether the E1 code clears — occasional interference can cause false triggers.
- Open the indoor unit’s front panel, remove the air filter, rinse it clean with water, dry it thoroughly, and reinstall. Also check whether the room temperature sensor (usually a small black probe near the right side of the indoor unit intake) is covered in dust — if so, gently wipe it clean with a soft cloth.
- Observe whether the E1 display on the indoor unit is flashing — flashing usually indicates a poor sensor connection, while a steady display likely means the sensor itself is damaged.
- Check whether the AC can start cooling or heating in the E1 state: if it cannot start at all, the sensor may have an open or short circuit and must be replaced.
- Room temperature sensor faults are not recommended for user DIY replacement. Call the Changhong air conditioner after-sales hotline for a professional technician to bring a replacement sensor and perform diagnosis and replacement on-site. Normal operation typically resumes immediately after replacement.
