English
Meaning
The Changhong air conditioner has detected an abnormal indoor fan motor speed feedback signal, displaying the E3 error code. E3 indicates the indoor fan is not running at the set speed or the main board is not receiving normal fan speed feedback pulses. The fan is the core component for air circulation — this fault will cause a significant drop in cooling or heating performance and may even trigger system protection shutdown.
Common Causes
- The indoor fan motor itself is damaged (winding burnout, bearing seizure, or rotor rubbing against the stator).
- The Hall effect sensor inside the fan motor has failed and cannot generate normal speed feedback signals.
- The fan startup capacitor has lost capacitance or broken down (for AC motor models), causing difficulty starting or insufficient speed.
- The fan drive circuit on the indoor unit main board (such as the TRIAC or MOSFET driver stage) is damaged and cannot supply normal power to the motor.
- The fan blower wheel is jammed by foreign objects or the cross-flow fan blades are excessively caked with dust, causing excessive rotational resistance.
- The feedback signal wiring between the indoor unit main board and the fan motor is disconnected or has poor contact.
Self-Check Steps
- Disconnect the AC from power, wait 3 minutes, then reconnect and start. Try operating at different fan speed settings (low, medium, high) and observe whether the fault still appears.
- Manually spin the cross-flow fan wheel at the indoor unit air outlet and check whether it rotates smoothly — noticeable resistance or abnormal noise may indicate a foreign object jam or bearing lubrication issues.
- Open the indoor unit front panel and visually inspect between the fan blades for foreign objects (paper, labels, etc.). If found, carefully remove them.
- Listen for a “humming” sound from the fan motor while the blower wheel is not spinning — if present, the startup capacitor may have failed or the motor windings may be burned out.
- Indoor fan motor repair involves motor disassembly and circuit diagnostics. Do not attempt DIY repair. Contact Changhong AC after-sales service for a professional technician to use a multimeter and oscilloscope to test motor supply voltage and feedback pulse signals, determine whether the fault is the motor or the main board, and perform the appropriate replacement.
