The indoor fan is responsible for blowing cool/warm air into the room; a fan fault results in no airflow, abnormally low airflow, or increased noise.
Common Causes
- The indoor fan motor winding is burned out or the Hall feedback element is damaged, causing abnormal speed detection.
- The indoor fan impeller is blocked by foreign objects or heavily clogged with dust, overloading the motor.
- The fan motor start capacitor (PFC capacitor) has degraded or failed, preventing the motor from starting.
- The fan drive circuit (relay or triac) on the indoor main board is damaged.
- The fan motor wiring connector is loose or has poor contact.
- Bearing wear in the indoor fan causes the rotor to rub against the stator, locking the motor.
Self-Check Steps
- Power off, open the indoor unit panel, and manually rotate the fan impeller to check for smooth movement — binding suggests bearing wear or a foreign object.
- Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust buildup from the impeller and fan housing, ensuring nothing blocks the impeller.
- Check whether the fan motor connector is fully seated; reseat it and test.
- After powering on (safely), listen for a “humming” sound from the motor without rotation — this typically indicates a faulty start capacitor.
