The induction cooktop has separate microcontrollers on the main (power control) board and the display/operation panel (user interface), which exchange commands and status information over a communication bus. When the communication link fails, the main board cannot receive user commands and the display panel cannot report operating status — the system enters safe shutdown mode and displays E9.

Common Causes

  1. The ribbon cable or wiring harness connecting the main board and display panel is loose, making poor contact, or the connectors are not fully inserted into their sockets.
  2. The connecting cable has been subjected to thermal cycling and vibration inside the cooktop, causing internal wire fatigue fractures (especially at fold or bend points).
  3. The connector pins have been corroded, oxidized, or contaminated by liquid ingress, causing degraded insulation or short circuits between signal pins.
  4. Water ingress or prolonged high humidity inside the cooktop has created leakage on the communication lines, corrupting signal levels.
  5. Protection components (e.g., TVS diodes or series resistors) on the communication interface of either board have been damaged.
  6. One of the MCUs has entered a runaway or lock-up state due to power supply fluctuations, preventing proper communication protocol handshaking.

Self-Check Steps

  1. Disconnect the cooktop from power, unplug it, wait 5 minutes, then reconnect and power on. If E9 clears, the MCU may have locked up due to a power disturbance and recovered after the reset.
  2. Inspect the cooktop for signs of liquid ingress. If soup, sauce, or water has seeped in through the panel edges recently, the communication cable may have been corroded. Only test again after thorough drying with power disconnected.
  3. If you have the ability to open the cooktop safely, locate the flat ribbon cable between the main board and the display panel. Check that both ends are firmly inserted and latched. Re-seat the cable to ensure reliable contact.
  4. Inspect the cable for visible physical damage — crease marks, broken conductors, discoloration, or burning. A corroded or damaged cable needs replacement.
