English
Meaning
E20 indicates a drain error. After the washer enters the drain phase, the controller did not receive an “empty tub” signal from the water level sensor within the preset timeout (typically 3–5 minutes), determining that draining has failed. This is one of the most common faults in front-load washers; if drainage cannot be completed, the washer will lock the door and abort all programs.
Common Causes
- The drain pump filter is severely clogged with lint, coins, buttons, hairpins, or other debris, jamming the pump impeller or blocking the water flow path.
- The drain hose is crushed, kinked, or compressed by furniture, or the hose interior is blocked by sludge buildup, preventing water flow.
- The drain hose outlet is positioned too high (above 100 cm from the floor) or the outlet is fully submerged in drain water, creating siphon or back-pressure effects.
- The drain pump motor winding is burned out or the impeller is jammed by entangled foreign objects and cannot rotate properly.
- The control board drain pump drive circuit (e.g., TRIAC or relay) is damaged and cannot supply power to the drain pump.
Self-Check Steps
- Disconnect power from the washer. Locate the filter access panel at the front lower section, open it, and place a shallow container underneath to catch water.
- Slowly unscrew the debris filter counterclockwise (note that a significant amount of water may come out). Thoroughly remove lint, coins, and other debris from the filter cavity.
- Reach into the filter cavity and manually turn the drain pump impeller — check whether it is jammed or has foreign objects tangled around it. Ensure the impeller can spin freely.
- Inspect the entire drain hose: trace from the rear of the machine, ensuring no kinks, crushing, or twisting. The drain hose outlet should be no higher than 100 cm above the floor, and the end should not be tightly sealed into the drain pipe.
- Reinstall and tighten the filter. Power on the washer and run a standalone “Drain/Spin” cycle to test. If E20 persists, contact after-sales service to inspect the drain pump and main control board.
