E6

English

Meaning

The cliff sensor reading is abnormal. E6 indicates that one or more cliff/drop sensors are either always triggered or not responding at all. Cliff sensors are typically infrared distance sensors mounted on the bottom edge of the robot to detect stair edges and prevent falls.

Common Causes

  1. The cliff sensor surface is covered with dust or debris, blocking the infrared transmitter or receiver.
  2. The cliff sensor LED or photodetector has aged or failed.
  3. The trim or detection window cover around the bottom sensor has fallen off.
  4. The cliff sensor signal wire connector is loose.
  5. The sensor detection circuit on the main board is faulty.
  6. The sensor is being interfered with by reflective floor surfaces (polished tiles, mirrors), falsely detecting a cliff.

Self-Check Steps

  1. Flip the robot over and clean the four cliff sensor windows (black transmitter/receiver openings) on the bottom with a dry cotton swab or soft cloth.
  2. Check whether the cover near the sensor windows on the bottom is detached — reattach it if found loose.
  3. Test the robot on different floor surfaces (normal flooring rather than highly reflective surfaces) to rule out reflective interference.
  4. Restart the robot — occasional signal interference may be resolved with a power cycle.
  5. If E6 persists after cleaning, the cliff sensors may be damaged. Contact TCL after-sales to replace the bottom sensor assembly.
