English
Meaning
The input supply voltage is too low. E9 indicates the washer’s voltage detection circuit has measured the AC input voltage below the ~175V safety lower limit. Low voltage causes difficult motor startup, excessive current draw, and insufficient heating power. The system triggers protection and stops operation.
Common Causes
- Inherently low grid supply voltage — old residential areas or locations at the end of supply lines.
- Overly long or too-thin household wiring causing excessive voltage drop.
- Multiple high-power appliances (AC, water heater, etc.) on the same circuit drawing voltage down in parallel.
- Momentary voltage sag from starting a high-power device (e.g., air conditioner) being captured by the detection circuit.
- Loose washer power cord connection or poor socket contact causing increased contact resistance.
- The circuit breaker in the distribution panel for this circuit is aged with poor contact.
Self-Check Steps
- Use a multimeter in AC voltage mode to measure the outlet voltage — normal is 198V–242V (220V±10%). A sustained reading below 180V indicates an abnormal supply.
- Disconnect other high-power appliances on the same circuit and run the washer alone; check whether E9 clears.
- Check the socket for looseness — feel the insertion resistance of the plug to determine whether the socket’s copper contacts have lost their spring tension.
- Check the RCD or MCB for this circuit in the distribution panel for signs of heating or oxidized contacts.
- If the home has chronically low voltage, have an electrician check the incoming service and consider upgrading capacity, or purchase an AVR to provide regulated power.
- If voltage is normal but the washer still reports E9, the main board’s voltage detection circuit may be faulty. Contact TCL after-sales for inspection.
